Nicole Kidman Slaps Hollywood for Violence Against Women

Nicole Kidman testified before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Wednesday saying that she feels Hollywood has probably contributed to violence against women. She said women are portrayed as weak sex objects in the movies, according to the Associated Press.

The actress does not sign on to play those sorts of demeaning roles, according to the AP, saying, "I can't be responsible for all of Hollywood, but I can certainly be responsible for my own career."

Kidman promoted the International Violence Against Women Act in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). This legislation is being sponsored by Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Mass who plans to reintroduce the legislation soon, since it has been stalled in the past.

Luella Bartley’s muse may spend more time on the club scene than the pony club these days, but there’s still a hint of girlie-flirtatiousness about her.

Bartley played with punk notions, oversized zips and a lot of hardware as decoration, including dungaree clips, dog-clips and D-rings.

There were nods to the standard issue airman’s sweater – in blue, with cotton patches – and to utility clothing, in bib-front pinafores, but the pinafore was in a gorgeous emerald silk faille and the sweater was worn with skinny, tailored, check trousers.

These are the kind of clothes adored by the likes of Alexa Chung and Peaches Geldof – feminine, but with tons of attitude: polka dot knit cardigans, buttoned-up with gold lame skirts; zipped tops with muted-spot tulle skirts; and sexy jodhpurs in grey, with a gathered, sack-waist, that flattered the legs like tights.

Gold tights and patent slingbacks with furry pom-poms were a glam throwaway. For party-time, Bartley’s Luella girl opted for brocade trousers with fake fur capes and little reticule-like bags, or else, more dressy ‘frocks’ in panels of black and semi-transparent cream, with a short-sleeved bodice and a full skirt.

"Top Model" spinoff heads to catwalk

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The CW is spinning off its hit reality series "America's Next Top Model."

The network has ordered a pilot for "Operation Fabulous," starring "Top Model" regulars Jay Manuel and J. Alexander and executive produced by "Top Model" chiefs Tyra Banks and Ken Mok.

On "Fabulous," "Jay and J," as Manuel and Alexander are called on "Top Model," will travel the country giving women makeovers. In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them "Top Model"-style overhauls -- how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community.

The project seeks to capitalize on a fan-favorite "Model" segment, when contestants are given head-to-toe high-fashion makeovers supervised by Alexander.

Manuel and Alexander have been with "Model" since the series' debut on UPN in 2003. Manuel is the creative director of show's photo shoots; Alexander is a runway expert who has been a judge for the past few seasons.

"Model" airs twice a year on the CW. Although ratings have ebbed in recent years, the reality show remains the network's highest-rated series.

"Fabulous" would mark the third fashion-themed reality series on CW from Banks and Mok, who also executive produce the network's series "Stylista," slated to debut October 22, which features contestants vying for an editorial position at Elle magazine.

The Alba family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, then back to California, followed by Del Rio, Texas, and finally back to the West Coast.
